Michael Gove listens to local business leaders.
Michael Gove MP, the local Surrey County Councillors and Surrey Heath Borough Councillors listened to the concerns of local business men and women at the regular Gove’s Parliamentary Breakfast Club.
A superb hearty breakfast, served at Bob Potter OBE’s famous Lakeside International Hotel, was followed by Michael’s regular incisive update detailing the key business issues facing Surrey Heath, Surrey, Britain and the Economy.
The local business leaders raised a diverse range of issues including: - the impact of car park charges on local shops
- the current Special Protection Area, rare birds, the impact on local firms and the stances of Natural England and Surrey Heath Borough Council
- the state of the streets outside the new Atrium and the success of the VUE cinema
- the need to have a civil service that was reduced in size to match our economy’s ability to pay for it
- the loss of local businesses – most noticeable in Camberley Town Centre, but with many other casualties across the borough
- the practical problems being experienced with banks and their failure to deliver on Gordon Brown’s promises to provide access to credit for viable credit worthy local firms
- the need for a drop off zone at Ravenscote School
- the amount of debt that Gordon Brown’s current spending spree will leave every man, woman and child to pay
- the impact of the decision to build a 3rd runway at Heathrow
- the proposals for development at Deepcut Barracks and the need to balance the needs of multiple stakeholders and a complex legislative framework
As a direct result of the meeting, Michael, the Borough Councillors and the County Councillors agreed to take on specific actions including writing letters, follow up meetings and raising matters directly with Ministers in Westminster.
Gove’s Parliamentary Breakfast Club is open to all local business men and women and meets several times every year at prestigious locations around the borough.
